 FAQs

  • A Notary Public is a public officer appointed by the state to serve as an impartial witness in the signing of important documents, administer oaths, and perform other official acts depending on the jurisdiction.

  • Documents that commonly require notarization include: Real estate deeds and mortgage documents, Powers of attorney, Wills and trusts, Affidavits and sworn statements, Business agreements and contracts, Adoption papers, etc.

  • Remote Online Notarization (RON) allows notaries to notarize documents electronically using audio-video technology. In Florida, RON is legal, and notaries must complete additional training and certification to perform remote notarizations.

  • The maximum fees a notary can charge in Florida are:

$10 per notarial act (oaths, affirmations, acknowledgments)

$25 per notarization for remote online notarizations

Additional fees may apply for travel, but these must be agreed upon in advance and cannot exceed the reasonable actual cost.

  • Florida law does not explicitly prohibit notarizing documents for family members. However, it is generally discouraged to avoid conflicts of interest or questions about the notary's impartiality.

  • Florida notaries are required to maintain a journal of all notarial acts, though it is not mandated by law. This journal should include details such as the date of the notarization, the type of document notarized, the names and addresses of the signers, and the type of identification presented.
